Tapis des Beni Ouaraïn, tribu zénète du nord-est du Moyen-Atlas. Entièrement tissé en laine, il est noué au noeud berbère, typique de ces régions et spécifique au Maroc. Le champ du tapis n'est pas enfermé dans un cadre, un trait de tous les tapis tribaux anciens conservé dans ce très bel exemplaire datant de 1985. Le dessin de grille losangique ne se trouve pas que chez les Béni Ouaraïn, mais y est très employé, émergeant de façon plus ou moins marquée du fond blanc. Dimensions : env 340 x 200 cm

This rug originates with the Beni Ouarain, a zeneta tribe installed in the north-eastern Middle Atlas of Morocco. Entirely made of handspun wools, it is knotted using the berber knot, widely used in these regions and specific to Morocco. It is an open field carpet, not enclosed within a frame, as were all berber rugs in ancient times. Although not very old (1985), this superb weaving has retained these crucial characteristics. The losangic grid, that is not specific to Beni Ouarain, is much used in that kind of rug. The design, black, is just visible through the thick white pile. Dimensions: ca 340 x 200 cm / 11'4" x 6'8".
